British Parliamentary System

I would like to share my experience during i join debate coaching in UPT Bahasa University of Jember yesterday. I join it because i really like english debate. At least we can take many beneficial like improve and elaborate my arguments and  my comunication skill.

At least we have to know 2 kind of debate system. They are British Parliamentary System  (BPS) and Asian Parliamentary System  (APS). In this moment, i would like to explain about British Parliementary System (BPS).

A.    Definition of Debate

In short, Debate is a meeting or discussion some issues or problem. In this case we called it by using name “motion”. By debating, We have to try hard to explore our argument deal with case we faced. We do our act based on our position. There are 2 kind of position govermnet bench and opposition bench.

B.     Beneficial of Debate

ü Assembling effective arguments

ü Organizing effective arguments

ü Lobbying some conflict

ü Developing our comunication skills

ü Using the language to convince people that your argument outweight your opposition’s

ü Positive thinking in all position we faced

ü Exercise to defend our argument

C.     BPS System

·      In this debate, Every round consist 4 teams, every teams consist 2 speakers

·      A goverment bench consist of opening government and closing government

·      A opposition bench consist of opening opposition and closing opposition

·      Adopted from British Parliamentary rules

·      Speaking duration is 8 minute

·      Every speaker must take 2 or more POI during their speaking time.

·      The debate round headed by chair person.

·      The Time keeper is a person that keep your speking time.

·      The Opening Government team consist Prime minister as first speaker and Deputy Prime minister as second speaker.

·      The Opening Opposition team consist Leader of the Opposition as first speaker and Deputy Leader of the Opposition as second speaker.

·      The Closing Government team consist Member of the Government as first speaker and Government whip as second speaker.

·      The Closing Opposition team consist Member of the Opposition as first speaker and Opposition whip as second speaker.
